Nigerian Police Hunting Biafran Supporters rather than Boko Haram Terrorists

The agitation for the sovereign state of Biafra has intensified in the last few months in Nigeria due to the activities of the Indegenious People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Radio Biafra which has recently been enjoying more listnership than BBC Radio on Tunein radio platform. The radio station has its Biafra audience scattered all over the world and who funds the station according to the director of Radio Biafra Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
However, it has not been easy for the supporters of Biafra movements in Nigeria especially in the Eastern region comprising of the present day South East and South South regions whose  fundamental human rights to freely agitate for self determination have been denied by the Nigerian security operatives. On 30th of August 2015 Radio Biafra reported that three unarmed Biafran supporters were shot and killed in Onitsha Anambra State by the Nigerian Navy while the IPOB members were on a peaceful match to spread the message of Biafra. Again on the 7th of October 2015, about 10 individuals were arrested in Enugu simply for listening to radio Biafra. Members of IPOB have lambasted the Nigerian security agencies for treating the dreaded Boko Haram terrorists that kill in hundreds with kids glove while unleashing terror to unarmed Biafran supporters who are simply agitating for their right as enshrined in the United Nations charter of right of the indegenious people.
It will be recalled that the late Col Odumegwu Ojukwu on May 29th 1967 declared the Republic of Biafra when the option to peacefully resolve various ethnic tensions that led to the killing of Easterners mostly Igbos in Nigeria failed. The meeting was held in Aburi Ghana between the Eastern region headed by Ojukwu and General Yakubu Gowon the Nigeria military head of state who agreed with Ojukwu for a Confderal/Regional political arrangement in the country but later retreated from implementing the agreement hence leaving the Eastern region to declare the Republic of Biafra and Nigeria led by Gowon declared war on Biafra. It is on record that for the very first time in history Britain and Old Soviet Union collaborated in support of Nigeria against a tiny Africa state of Biafra. In the end over 3 million Biafrans were killed while about 1 million children were starved to death. Is it not an irony that Soviet Union has now disintegrated while Scotland is seriously pushing for her independence from Britain. What a shame! Some have argued that Britain was more interested in the oil in Biafra land than the people of Biafra. And also that the emergence of Biafra would be a heavy slap on Britain that her artificial boundaries created in Africa is unworkable.
Today the survivors of Biafran genocide are taking up the mantle from where their parents stopped to determine their future which has not been cared for by the Nigerian state. Now, before Biafran freedom fighters turn voilent, will Nigeria allow a peaceful referendum for Biafrans as their colonial master Britain granted to Scotland? Or the same way Spain has allowed Catalonia to freely agitate for self determination? What is good for the goose is also good for the gander. On their part,  the Biafran agitators are not willing to back down on their demand for a separate country and just as their late leader  Ojukwu said “Nothing can crush the will of a determined people”. Biafrans are calling lovers of freedom and justice around the world to support their right for self determination as enshrined in the UN’s Charter.
